Saturday Brunch at the Modern Pantry

The food and dining scene has certainly changed in London. Today the foodies are out and enjoying wonderful dining options like The Modern Pantry in Clerkenwell, which is where Mel and I met up with a few of her friends for brunch.

The food is all about fresh ingredients. In an a local magazine article that arrived at Mel's I learned how difficult it was for the restaurant owner to open such a place in 2008. People thought she was crazy for opening in such a random location and weren't necessarily convinced the establishment would thrive. Now it is extremely popular and in a very hip last of town.

Amos Lee at the Royal Festival Hall

Friday night we made out way to back down to the Embankment area along the Thames. Mel picked up a couple of tickets to see Amos Lee a while back and I greatly benefitted from her planning.

The concert was held in the Royal Festival Hall in the Southbank Centre. Before the show we ate at a wonderful restaurant called Skylon, but not after a walk along the embankment.

Did I mention we had box seats?

Londontown

Cheerio from London! Mel and I have been wandering the city indulging in food, wine and entertainment.

I arrived on Thursday in the late afternoon  and we took the opportunity to simply walk the city (but not after getting to FaceTime with Matt and the girls!)  Mel lives in the city center in an area called Clerkenwell / Farringdon on the north side of the river Thames. It's a hip area full of publishing houses and the like. We walked down to the river through the Smithfield meat market, across the bridge leading to the Tate Museum, through the Borough Market, past Saint Paul's Cathedral, across the London Bridge, and eventually back to Farrigdon to eat dinner at a great place called the Giant Robot.

On Friday we continued to walk the city checking out some of the city's many markets they have, taking advantage of it being a workday so places like Spitalfields Market were not overwhelmed by crowds. We picked up a few little goodies but mostly walked around looking at the homemade crafts, clothes and such.
